Atyanga Sylvia’s story
Atyanga Sylvia is an entrepreneur from Masindi Municipality who operates a local-food restaurant along Kampala Road. For years, she worked toward the goal of providing her family with a safe, decent and comfortable home, but the cost of construction remained a major financial barrier.
Through her interaction with ENCOT Microfinance staff, Sylvia learned about the institution’s housing-finance support. Sylvia first became familiar with ENCOT in 2013 and, in 2018, acquired a UGX 2.5 million loan which she combined with savings to purchase a plot of land. She subsequently accessed additional loans and is currently servicing UGX 8 million over 12 months.
With the financing support, Sylvia progressed with construction of a seven-room house comprising a dining area, living room, five bedrooms and a bathroom. The house has progressed to its final phase of completion.
The transformation has given Sylvia greater comfort, security and pride, while allowing her to focus on expanding her business and improving her family’s quality of life.
Her future plans include expanding the restaurant business and constructing rental units on other plots of land for additional income generation. ENCOT’s role in her story includes affordable housing finance, professional financial guidance and timely loan processing.
